Forensic Science

There are many types of tests, experiments, mathematical calculations, and inventions used to solve mysteries. Get a Taste with this month's theme of forensic science.

Kids love to invent things, take a step further. Your host will help everyone think through their idea, which they have drawn on paper. How is it powered? Why would that help? How do you use it? And more.

Engineering Challenge:

Demonstration

Activity

Experiment

Inventors Toolbox:

All experiments must have a variable, 1 thing you are changing to see what happens to the outcome. Although the host of the cafe may have an idea of what will happen, each experiment has its own results. This brand of paper towel soaked up the most water today, but tomorrow, with another family, they may find another brand is better.

An open ended building challenge, that has no correct solution, only what your imagination is willing to try will you figure out something that works.

A demonstration is a hands-on science experiment that has a known end result. Mix these two chemicals and watch what happens. Playing with baking soda and vinegar is an example of something we know what will happen every time.

An activity is a hands on science experiment that kids enjoy repeating. Making slime, or playing with STEM toys are activities. Good to do once, and some kids enjoy doing them again and again.

Nature Journaling:

Nature journaling is an art, but also a science. Practice using the skills I notice, I wonder, it reminds me of.
