What is an Biomimicry Fair?

Biomimicry is a field of study where scientist and engineers take inspiration from nature to solve human problems. A Biomimicry Fair is a place where everyone submits invention ideas inspired by nature.

Anything!

What items in nature can you take inspiration from?

Here are some common examples of inventions you are probably familiar with that took inspiration from nature.
  • Bicycle helmets were inspired by turtle shells

  • Velcro was inspired by seeds that cling to your clothing. (Or as the story goes, your dog!)

  • Wind turbine blades where shaped like whale fins

Basic Rules

All projects must clearly state what the inspiration was which must be nature-based.

02

All projects must show in some form (drawing/ model/image) of the original prototype.

03

Projects must show how the participant went through the design process to create their invention.

04

A physical model of the idea/invention must be included.
